Travel is something that has always been a part of my life. Whether I’m dreaming about it or actually doing it, I always seem to function better if I’ve got an adventure ahead.
Travel can be big and elaborate or beautifully simple but it always seems to put things back in perspective. We love traveling as a family, but today we are looking into the benefits of traveling as a couple, without your kids.

Thanks for this post! Just got back from a weeklong trip with my husband which is the longest we’ve left our toddler for. I definitely had some anxiety about leaving him but we knew it was important for our relationship, as we’re preparing to welcome baby number two this summer! My Mom LOVES coming to watch him for us and getting that one on one time. Hoping that travel can always be a priority for our family both with and without kids!
yay! I hope it can be for you as well
Some of the best conversations I’ve had with my husband have been on road trips.
Right? I agree!
This post made me think of what I believe to be sage advice my father offers all newly married family members, even before kids enter the picture. He recommends taking at least two trips a year: one with kids (when/if that’s part of the picture) and one without. These don’t have to be extravagant, and can be as little as an overnight, but the point is really making the time to prioritize travel as a family and with one’s significant other. I remember the excitement I felt as a kid, knowing they were going away on their trip, as we prepared to either have a loved one stay with us or pack up and head over to a family friend’s house for the week. It was an adventure for us kids, too! Benefits all around! Thanks for this reminder.
Love this! I agree, just a quick trip can really be rejuvenating, I still feel like we’re riding the wave from this Lost Coast backpacking trip this past December!
My parents rarely travelled when I was a kid, and looking back, I wish they did more because they sacrificed so much just to take care of me! Alone time with your SO is so important! 🙂
PS: Beautiful photos! 😀
