When Jared told me he wanted to take on renovating the guest bathroom himself and with zero experience, I was terrified. Now, safely on the other side, I absolutely love how it turned out and am so proud of him! Here are a few details and photos of it…
Jared was really inspired by this book, Shop Class as Soulcraft, that talks about the importance of actually doing and not just thinking, aka skilled manual labor. After lot of research and YouTube tutorials, he felt like he could tackle the guest bathroom himself.
Jared did the renovation and design of it mostly all himself, from the demo and drywall to the tile and fixtures (although he did ask my opinion about a few things here and there). There was demo (which he did end up hiring someone to help remove large pieces), plumbing (also had some help with that), drywall, back board and tiling with his friend Phil (so much tiling), painting, a new sink and toilet, fixtures, etc. In total time it took about 2-3 weeks of work.
This is all I contributed to this project: grabbing some fresh new towels, pretty French soaps and travel sized shampoos and lotions I had lying around for guests.
You might be able to tell in the image above, but the pipes in the back were preventing the vanity drawers from closing all the way, so Jared had to cut into them and make slots for them to fit and close completely. So many small projects in this big project. There was a lot of work that had to be done to this wall with the round mirror. The old mirrors were those old medicine cabinet ones that were built into the wall. He had to do a lot of work to get rid of those huge holes and patch it all up.
Love your renovation – what colour grout did you use for with shower and floor tile?
Bravo Jared! XOXO
In love with the baskets in the bathroom here, such a unique detail!

It looks SO GREAT!! Well done. Love the tiles together. Love it all.
I really love the tile! Can you link to the exact tile you used for the shower and floor?
It’s linked at the very last line where I mention Home Depot !
This is so lovely! Pinned it already. What does the lighting look like? I’m needing to remodel and cannot decide what light to use…
I’m not loving the lighting we got, we might end up going with something different, that’s why I didn’t mention it!
Your bathroom is gorgeous! It turned out perfect!
