Beach day at Crown Memorial

crownbeach2

There’s a sweet little beach on the bay that’s only 15 minutes from our house in Oakland called Crown Memorial. It’s long, easy parking, clean, with calm waters that kids can play in. It reminds me of Crissy Field in San Francisco we love. On a warm day in the summer, it’s the perfect place to spend the afternoon. Here are a few photos of our outing there with the girls in partnership with CVS Pharmacy and their goal to make healthy eating more convenient and affordable…

Last month I went to New York for a CVS Pharmacy event and was really impressed with some recent changes they’ve made. They have several new initiatives to make health more convenient and more of a priority. Things like removing cigarettes from their stores (the first national pharmacy to do so), dedicated space for better-for-you snacks at the front registers, only selling skincare products with SPF 15 and above, and prominently displaying nutrient-rich snacks.

The featured snacks and grocery items are brands we trust and made with nutrient dense “superfoods”. Things like kale and beet chips, chia bars, super juice, quinoa puffs, KIND and Larabars. I’m really impressed with the changes they’ve been making and that dedication to convenience and health that CVS has.

When we’re packing for a trip to the beach, I can run into CVS Pharmacy quickly and grab everything we need quickly: water, healthy snacks, sunscreen, and sand toys. I can also grab things we need at home like eggs, milk, and diapers. An easy and convenient spot for everything we need.

My kids always love browsing the seasonal aisle at CVS. We usually end up picking up something fun like squirt guns or water toys. It’s amazing how a simple thing like a bucket can give kids hours of enjoyment at the beach.

At Crown Memorial, because the waters are so calm, it’s a great place for the kids to explore on their own. When Henry is with us he can walk pretty far out! Edie of course needs a little more supervision but she still loves it.

At the beach, there’s a nice little ledge where we can park our beach blanket, jump off the sand hill, and have sweeping views of the kayakers on the bay, Oakland, and San Francisco on the other side.

After some time running around we sat down for some snacks. I don’t know about you, but at the beach I’m pretty crazy about trying to keep sand out of my snacks! I try to just give them one at a time but they always end up digging in (something about the sun makes them crazy hungry!).

For today’s beach trip we picked up Rhythm Beet Chips and Kale Chips (the kale ones are my favorite!), Feel Good Superjuice, Gold Emblem Abound (CVS brand) Greek Yogurt Covered Raisins, and some fresh peaches from the refrigerator section that were super juicy!

At CVS, products that fit nutritional and dietary preferences including heart healthy, good source of protein, gluten free, sugar free, organic and non-GMO project verified, are highlighted with shelf tags so we can find healthier items quickly. Super convenient! Plus, through the CVS Pharmacy ExtraCare Rewards program, you can save and automatically earn 2% back in ExtraBuck Rewards.

Dot was into those beet chips (she has 5 teeth now!) and Edie loved the greek yogurt raisins (she has a big sweet tooth). The Feel Good mango water was delicious!

I really want to come back soon for some stand up paddle boarding later this summer with Henry. The calm waters are perfect for kayaking and paddle boarding.

Such a fun afternoon, we’ll be back soon!
