December 1st is just one week away, so today we’re sharing a really easy DIY advent calendar you can make from strips of balsa wood, chalkboard paint, and some mini silver ornaments. Children can add one ornament to the tree each day of December leading up to Christmas.
Keep reading to see how to make it…
Step 1: Glue strips of balsa wood onto a large piece of kraft paper. We found balsa wood at our local hobby store.
Step 2: Trace the outline of a Christmas tree onto the front.
Step 3: Paint with chalkboard paint, or a craft paint with a foam brush using large strokes
Step 4: Add stickers in numbers 1-25 to small silver ornaments. We bought a box of small ornaments at Target for $5. The glittery stickers are from amazon. We used some glue tape to secure them to the round ornaments. The stickers are removable if you want to re-use the ornaments.
Step 5: After the paint is dry, add 25 small strips of velcro to the board. We picked up a strip of velcro tape our local hardware store.
Step 6: Add a small matching piece of velcro to the back of each ornament so they can stick to the board
To hang, we used some natural rope and duct tape. The balsa wood is really lightweight so it’s easy to hang.
Leave a basket of the ornaments by the tree and each day of December before Christmas the child can add one ornament that has the date’s sticker onto the tree!
looks very nice!,l really want to have a try!
