Super important date to put on your calendar next week, guys. Friday, June 5th is National Donut Day! We’ve been salivating at all the homemade donut recipes online (stay tuned tomorrow for a roundup of our very favorites!) but they are all pretty complicated and I wanted to come up with a simple but still delicious version of a homemade donut. I experimented and came up with this easy solution for delicious strawberry lemonade cake donuts…
We used a boxed strawberry cake mix (those were always one of my favorite cakes growing up). After adding the water and eggs to the mix, we threw in some fresh chopped strawberries and a bit of homemade strawberry jam, just for kicks.
Baked at 350 degrees in a baked donut pan and then prepared the glaze which is just 3 T of fresh lemon juice with 2 cups of powdered sugar. Whisked until smooth. Pour the glaze over the baked donuts once they come out of the oven and let it drip down the sides, sprinkling with some lemon zest. Yum!
