Airheads Mitten Cookies

Working with Airheads who has a fun holiday contest going on, I’m trying my hand working with the easy and colorful candy as a fondant in a non-traditional holiday treat.

Step 1: Decide your color scheme for the striped airhead fondant on top. Microwave the airheads for about 5-8 seconds to slightly soften them and then cut with a pizza cutter into strips. Attach the strips to eachother while the airheads are still slightly soft and malleable. mitten-airhead-cookies4

Step 2: Using a cookie cutter of your choice, press it hard into the striped airheads design you made. If they harden too much stick them in the microwave for a bit but be careful of over heating them. If you’ve found a spot has become too soft, let it sit and harden up a bit before working with it. Step 3: Do the same with other designs and colors of airheads.

mitten-airhead-cookies6Step 4: Make your sugar cookies with the same cookie cutter. My favorite sugar cookie recipe is from my sister in law here.

mitten-airhead-cookies2Step 5: Place your airheads mitten candy on top of the cookie while they’re still a bit warm and they’ll adhere every so slightly to the cookie. Serve and enjoy!
