Summer Uniform: Patterned Dress

By fashion contributor Ashley

For the summer we will be doing a new series called Summer Uniform! It will highlight one piece that should be inducted into your closet for the summer and give tips on different ways to wear it.

To start things off, what is summer without a summer dress! This summer it’s all about having a patterned dress. The great thing is you can choose a dress with a silhouette that suits you, just get something fun and colorful.
For this post I chose to use this amazing floral dress by Zara. It’s a little bit more structured than the traditional summer dress but still has endless styling possibilities.

An instant way to dress a piece down is to add some denim to the mix and this jacket does just that. Roll up the sleeves to keep things cool along with a cap to keep the sun out of your eyes. For a little extra interest throw in a patterned tote. Cool, yet casual (and comfortable).
Look One:

1. Denim Jacket 2. Tote 3. Cap 4. Sneakers
Two more looks…

To give your dress the look of strolling through the markets of Paris add neutral accessories and a bright lipstick. A scarf would be adorable tied up in your hair. This look has a sweet feminine feel that I love.

Look Two:
1. Sandal 2. Sunglasses 3. Lipstick 4. Scarf

To accentuate the structure in your dress I’d pair it with accessories that have straight lines and simple color schemes. I love the little punch that the clutch adds. You could wear this look to an outdoor wedding for the perfect modern moment.

Look Three:
1. Belt 2. Sunglasses 3. Platform Sandals 4. Clutch

Savannah Guthrie from the TODAY show wore something very similar (maybe the same dress) yesterday!

Love that dress and all the looks. I’d for sure wear it all summer long

Parisian pop is my favorite too! That lipstick was recommend to me by a friend and I LOVE it, totally worth the splurge.
