Summer Fruit Wands

fruitskewers8

We’ll be spending 4th of July in the Outer Banks of North Carolina with my family- we’re headed there a week from Saturday for two weeks! Hooray! Living in San Francisco we don’t get a warm summer so I kind of freak out for real summer trips like this. I’m hoping to make these fruit wands for a 4th of July BBQ using all the delicious fruit that’s in season right now, and something festive for the kids to play with while they eat.

Today I’m showing two ideas for festive fruit wands. Some fun kid wands (the star versions above) and also more adult ones (the delicious melon with feta +mint + olive oil versions below).

Make the kid fruit wands using a star cookie cutter for the watermelon:

Then simply poke a skewer into the star and thread on festive ribbon, melon balls and blueberries

For the adult version, with a small knife cut a hole in the bottom of your melon wedges (with rind) to fit a popsicle stick:

Then place them on a plate and sprinkle with fresh mint, feta cheese, and a drizzle of olive oil and salt for an amzingly sweet treat:
