I love Valentine’s Day as you can really make someone’s day with a little anonymous message saying how much you admire someone special.

These cute little hearts are a great alternative to writing a card and you can pop them in the pocket of your Valentine’s bag or lunchbox or hide them around the house.
You could even make some to post in your neighbor’s letterbox or drop some around your neighborhood for people to find by surprise.
Let’s get started with materials…

  1. Valentines Message in a Heart template (download here)
  2. Felt scraps
  3. Embroidery thread + needle
  4. Pen
  5. Cookie cutter in heart shape
  6. Scissors

Optional: Wool stuffing to make your hearts a bit puffy or anything else you want to put in your little heart pocket (chocolates maybe?)

Step 1: Cut out the tabs from the template sheet and write your messages on them.

I wrote about my favorite memories and the qualities I love about my man, but you could write little jokes or even just one word that sums up what you admire about your Valentine.

Step 2: Double up your felt and then trace around the cookie cutter, using it as a template.

Cut out all of your hearts ready to sew together.

Step 3: Starting with sewing through both heart shapes, embroider around your hearts using a straight stitch.

Keep sewing until you have a gap for your tab to fit.

Once your reach your gap, sew across the top layer of the heart only so that you can slot your tab in underneath these stitches, but the heart still looks finished and pretty.

Step 4: I filled my hearts with a little wool stuffing to make them puffy. You could put some sweets inside instead.

Roll up your tab and slot it into the heart leaving just the colored part hanging out.

Keep sewing up your hearts until you have a collection.

I used a bright combination of felt so they were easily spotted.

Now you’re ready to place them around the house ready for your Valentine to discover their little surprises!
