Current Trend Crush: Orange-Red Lipstick

(image)

How do you feel about a little orange-red lipstick in your makeup bag? I’m loving the MAC version I have and find myself wearing it all the time! (I was wearing it here at Alt). Whenever I’m too lazy to dress up I put on bright lipstick and instantly feel cute. I’d love to try that Revlon version as well, such a great drugstore version.

Funny backstory: My father has worked for Revlon for 30 years! We would get huge boxes full of makeup for Christmas from his work every year filled with the most random cosmetics and crazy colors. It was wasted on my sisters and I since we didn’t wear makeup at all until college (I think it’s an east coast thing?). I remember seeing bright lipsticks and thinking, “Who on earth would wear this ridiculous color?!?”. HA! I have daydreams about that huge box. What goodies were inside that we passed up?!?

Could you pull off one of these bold orange-red colors? Are you into bright lipsticks right now too?

Such a fan! I think the best way to pull it off is to just go for it one day and don’t look back. Mary Kay has a great shade.

I’m learning to be a little bolder with my lip color. I recently realized that 26 is far too young to be stuck in a dusty rose color rut! So I stepped out of my comfort zone last week and purchased one of the brighter pinks (but not super bright – baby steps) that I’ve seen people wearing a lot lately. (It Girl by Lorac for those interested) Surprisingly, my husband even noticed and remarked on how much he liked it!

Oh gosh. I LOVE my bright pink and I’m really tempted to try orange. It looks so pretty on your light skin… so maybe it will work on mine?

I might try it!

I’ve always liked bright lips, but I tend to gravitate toward pinks and reds. I love the way orangey lipstick looks on other people, but I feel like it brings out the yellow tones in my teeth. I’ve been wearing MAC lipstick in Girl About Town (fuchsia) and Milani lipstick in Rose Hip (bright hot pink) a lot lately, and you’re right, it does make me feel more put-together and dressed up.

Also, I’m dying thinking about getting a huge box of free makeup. My mom is in Mary Kay, so I always got a lot of makeup at Christmastime, but not a giant box!

I have a NARS lip pencil in Cruella. The PERFECT red. Not too orange, or purple, as reds can tend to look. It’s a true red. (With the perfect name).

I love the orangey colors you posted. I am obsessed with that Emma Stone Revlon Lip Butter commercial, because there she is with red hair pulling of this orangey lip. The displays at the store say she’s wearing the Peach Parfait color, which I bought and love, but seems more pinky-coral. Then I decided to be daring and buy the Tutti Frutti color which is definitely more orange and BRIGHT and looks far more like the color she is actually wearing. I haven’t worn it out of the house yet…bright lipsticks make me nervous, and I’m a total make up girl.

I love that you’re experimenting with so many bold colors. It makes me wish I had that revlon box right now!

Thanks to this post, I’m not on the hunt for perfect red-orange lip…I bought a similar revlon color and wore it to work today! Then while I was at Sephora, the girl behind the counter had this perfect coral lipgloss stain from YSL…my lip color collection is growing!

I’m loving a bright lippie right now. My husband keeps asking what’s gotten into me! It’s so funny! I think he sees me in a different light with bold lipstick on. BRIGHT hot pink is another color I’m adoring. I’m going to search out that Revlon color tomorrow.

I totally agree! even if i’m just in leggings in a t-shirt red lipstick makes me feel put together and cute!

I love love love the NARS lip pencils. I’m kind of NARS crazy right now – might have to go get that color…

I love this colour and have been meaning to buy a lipstick in this shade for the LONGEST time. Thanks for the reminder!

I’ve been wearing the Nars Red Square lip pencil for a bit now, and I absolutely love it. I love an orange-red or a fuchsia for bright lips!

Ha! I’ve been dying to know what lipstick you were wearing in that photo; now I can go get me some.

So, here’s a sad story about awesome lipstick. My friend throws this crazy Bingo party every Christmas. People literally fight over presents. I worked really hard to get my little sister–who is new in town–invited to last years’ party. She was anxious about what fabulous present to bring, and I told her to bring something she’d love to get. So she brought this amazing fiery red lipstick and some cute nail polish, and the girl who got it acted like it was a gag gift. She and a bunch of other girls were passing the lipstick around, trying it on (oh, the germs!), kissing each other’s cheeks, laughing hysterically. It seriously made me want to smack someone and then burst into tears! Girls are so mean sometimes.

That’s horrible!!! Well, obviously these girls are not col enough to know how hot red is! I hope your sister knows that. Ugg.

I’m definitely more of a red and pink girl myself, but you’ve piqued my interest with the red-orange! I might have to try it.

Loooove this color! I have a Mac version too, but not that one!

Orangy-red is one of my favorite colors, i don’t know that I’m brave enough to wear it on my lips, though, haha.

i've just been thinking this week that i need to buy a tube of red lipstick. yippee!

I am always in favor of red lipstick, it's the best accessory to compliment a baby.

i love it and i have that same crazed look in my eyes with moving as well. best of luck!

It's the perfect shade. Not to girly, not too vampy.

LOVE this picture of you and Hank! Good luck with the move, Liz.

oh lix, it looks absolutely fabulous on you! very very suiting! not alot of people can pull off red lipstick. envious!

the red looks gorgeous on you. I've always wanted to do it and almost got the urge when Kenley from Project Runway last season wore it as her signature. Just not sure I can pull it off. YOU can! Good luck with your move.
