Dining Room Projects

I’m doing a dining room makeover while Jared is away on his trip. I’ve always hated this room because it’s so dark. Dark ceilings, paint, floor, table, bookshelves, etc. Blah. Not to mention ugly chairs. I need a big change and I want to brighten it up a lot.

Here is what my dining room looks like now:

The makeover will include:

1. Bright paint job (doing that tomorrow). It’s a light blue/green.

2. Recovering these danish chairs below I found at Green Ant, a used mid century modern store here in Salt Lake . I’m getting them recovered this week in white leather, and the cushion will be much smaller. I’m so excited about this. Don’t they look like these west elm ones I wanted so badly? All four of these chairs were still less than one west elm chair. I’ve already sold my grandma’s chairs for $150, which is still more than I paid for these four 🙂

3. A new white bookshelf, maybe this one from ikea. My bookshelves look like this now.
4. A new lighting fixture, maybe this pendant lamp from ikea or this one from cb2
5. Possibly a new rug (if I can sell mine)

Any other ideas to brighten up this room??
I’ll post pics when it’s done (which may be a couple weeks depending on how things go)

Those chairs are amazing! Can’t wait to see how it all turns out. Post pictures of the “in-progress” stage, pretty please? I just love before, during, and afters!

What a great project. Liz, do you have a spot in SLC for recovering? I have a few chairs but am not sure where to take them.

julia- oh great! thanks! and i think you were the one that gave me the idea for the pendant lamp in the first place. 🙂

yes, i’m thinking of the expedit but a little concerned with how high the holes are, thinking it will give us too much extra room above the books. I’m going to ikea this week to check it out.

Liz–that’s those are the exact same chairs as the one we recovered. I can’t believe you scored so many! They’re perfect. The while dining room is going to look great…can’t wait for pics.

wow, can’t wait to see the finished product!!! those chairs are beautiful!

Those chairs are PERFECT. And you got the real thing – yay! I’d have to say go with the Expedit. It’s so practical and I love the way it makes a room look. I recently redid our dining room with one: http://www.flickr.com/photos/inkstainedwriter/3388416302/If you’re looking for new curtains, I’d recommend the VIVAN from IKEA. I have them in two rooms and they’re the perfect white/sheer curtain I wanted. They have some great rugs too, though FLOR does as well.
