Magnetic Chalkboard Done!

I started with this $7 mirror from the thrift store:

I spray painted the frame white ($3) and then added four coats of magnetic paint (kind of expensive, a quart was $20) straight onto the mirror. Then I sprayed two coats of chalkboard paint ($5) on top of the magnetic paint. That’s it! It’s not super magnetic, but it does the trick. Some spots seems to be better than others (as you can see from our name falling). I have lots of extra magnetic and chalkboard paint so I’m thinking of more projects to do.
Total= $35
It’s up in our kitchen and I just love it!

oh I love this – and I love the post-it calendar. what a clever idea! this could replace my calendar, cork board, refridgerator magnets, and messages left on the counter! what a great find and great idea.

Oh, this is awesome. I had no idea there was magnet paint, very cool. I’m so horrible at finding the thrifty stuff and realizing it’s a treasure waiting to be refinished! Great job.

It really does look fab, i was just kidding on twitter, can we still be friends?

FANTASTIC! I have been waiting to see how this turned out:) oh…and thanks for your post about Emilee jane. I have been wondering if you would post about it (found on Your Heart Out). can’t wait to take a trip up there soon. anyways…fantastic!

Just saw this via your tweet. Love it! There are so many cool things I want to try!

Hi there, I was just checking the comments on designsponge and came across your project. It turned out great and I can’t believe you found that beauty for $7. If I were to do that project on my own I would have just used the magnetic chalkboard paint as well. Anyway love it! Ok and wishing I could go to the Jonathan Canlas workshop in San Francisco that you posted about. His work is amazing.Hope SLC is treating you well. We miss living there. I really likey your blog.Christina

How beautiful and very functional! Are those post-its for your calendar? If you wanted to, you could use a permanent white marker and draw in a calendar template where you could chalk in the days of the month each month. Just an idea but what you did is really nice.

(Linked from twitter) LOVE the calendar. I made a corkboard version, but I’ve been thinking a magnetic one will be less work to redo each month. We’ll see 🙂

It turned out GREAT Liz! Can’t wait to see it in person…When are you going to invite us over?

Well I am inspired. I shall be on the lookout for a mirror now. It looks beautiful.

i saw an episode on HGTV the other night where they used magnetic paint and painted patterns directly onto the walls of a playroom. an instant place for magnetic alphabet letters. very fun.

i’m putting on the last coat of chalkboard paint… and getting sick of the fumes

I am inspired! However, I will have to wait until my 30 days not spending challenge is over 🙂
